Why do I need travel insurance?

Travel Insurance is important

Just as you have home or car insurance, travel insurance is no different, by protecting the investment you make in travel plans. Travel insurance can protect your financial investment (up to the amount of your policy limits) should your trip be cancelled or interrupted for a covered reason, as well as provide additional benefits like baggage protection and emergency medical and dental coverage.

How can I buy a travel insurance policy?

Online Travel Insurance

If you are happy with the cover level and quoted price of the policy, you can purchase online using a credit or a debit card. If you do not wish to purchase your policy online contact us via email: travel@allianz-assistance.gr or call us on (+30) 211 10 98090 and we will issue the policy for you.

How do I know that buying my policy online is secure?

Allianz Global Assistance uses a secure payment gateway that makes the credit card transaction directly and securely with the bank. We do not see, record or store these card details in any form, simply get approval or decline from the banking institution. Confirmation of your purchase, your policy document and other associated documentation will be sent to you by email within 4 hours and can be printed as required. This connection through to the bank uses a 40bit encrypted SSL Web Server Certificate so that any information is encrypted or scrambled, making it impossible to intercept or steal. More information on this can be found at www.thawte.com but you can be assured that your transaction is at least as safe as any other normal off-line credit card transaction.


What if I change my mind about buying the policy?

If you decide your cover does not meet your requirements and would like to cancel it, you must notify us within 14 days of receiving your policy documents, in order to obtain a refund of your premium.

You will not be able to cancel if you have travelled, made a claim or intend to make a claim.

Is there an age limit on the Allianz Global Assistance travel insurance policy?

No, there are no age restrictions. However, insured persons above 70 years old are only covered in case of an accident. Health related incidents are not covered.

Can I make changes to my policy?

Yes, you can make changes if you have not yet made a claim on your policy and as long as the premium is not affected, by contacting our customer service team, email:  travel@allianz-assistance.gr

Do I need travel insurance if I have an EHIC card?

Yes. Whilst an EHIC card gives you access to state-provided medical care in European counties, it does not include cover for any private healthcare costs, associated medical costs such as mountain rescue or repatriation , or against other significant risks such as cancellations, delays or lost or stolen property. 

Do I need to pay the expenses abroad and then get reimbursed?

No, Allianz Global Assistance provides direct payment so you do not need to pay the expenses and get reimbursed. In case of an event, you should contact us immediately on  (+30) 211 10 98 098.  We will organize the direct payment of the expenses. However please keep in mind that there is an excess for some sections for which you will be responsible for paying .


How do I get my insurance documents?

Once you purchase your travel insurance policy online via the Allianz Global Assistance website, we will send you a confirmation and your corresponding policy documentation by email, for you to download, save and print as required.

Am I covered for any pre-existing medical conditions?

Our Travel Insurance does not cover claims relating to pre-existing medical conditions. 
Therefore if you or anyone named in the policy has a pre-existing medical condition at the time of purchasing your insurance or booking your journey (whichever is later), we will not be able to cover any claims.

How am I ever going to remember all these different contact numbers?
